Kjalarnes is known for gusts under the mountain. Out on the point it's calmer, as the founders put it in 2011: "There's less wind than on the road under the mountain."
What to wear
- Layers, a wind- and waterproof shell, and golf shoes with good grip. Golf attire or smart-casual outdoor wear.
- Iceland can show you four seasons in a round, so plan for all of them.
Clubs, carts and the clubhouse
- Rental clubs: 7,000 ISK. Carts: 9,500 ISK for 18 holes (last cart tee time 20:00; drivers 18+ with a licence). Trolleys: 2,000 ISK.
- Clubhouse: a small pro shop (balls, markers, logo wear) and a simple kitchen: soup, sandwiches, snacks, beer and wine.
On the course
- Keep up the pace: about four hours, in groups of up to four.
- Repair your pitch marks and divots, and take care on the rocky shore.
- Watch out for the robots. About thirty electric robot mowers keep the fairways trim. If one moves your ball, replace it. If your ball hits one, play it as it lies.
- Weather: if the course has to close, tee times can be rescheduled.
